Pterocarpus santalinus, with the common names red sanders, red saunders, Yerra Chandanam, Chenchandanam, red sandalwood, Rakta Chandana, and rakto chandon, is a species of Pterocarpus endemic to the southern Eastern Ghats mountain range of South India
Red sandalwood is fast-growing when young, reaching 16 feet tall in three years. It can grow up to 10 meters tall and have a trunk 50 to 150 cm in breadth. It takes several years to mature and produce valuable heartwood.
People use red sandalwood for conditions such as cancer, wounds, digestive tract problems, fluid retention, and many others, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses
